    Surface agitation would help with oxygen...not sure how it helps here. +1 on adding circulation though. Also, high phosphates could contribute to the problem. Have you checked that level recently? I agree that corals shouldn't have a problem with this...though I'm sure it's an aggravation.

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Surface agitation= increases the over all pH, more O2. In my tanks I have found that at higher pHs I have decreased algae.

    Can you post pics of your tank and powerheads? I wouldn't get more than about 1 conch per 40-50G's as they eat alot and is alot of snail to foul the system if it starves and dies.

    But I'd still do your coral order! Your tank is still young, takes awhile for the sugar fine sand to fully settle and get "dirty" enough to take more flow.

    I like to use 2-3 conchs for every 50g. But thats just a personal rule of thumb.

    I just moved my powerheads to the back and now try hit the front glass ad kinda flow down so I don't get a major sandstorm. I still may need a tiny powerhead.

    yeah, not sure on how many, I just know how much mine eats and how much mine flies around. I'd worry I'd have to supplement feed mine if I kept 2-3 per 50g, and sometimes they aren't that easy to find;)

    How many? what type? what size tank? your 55g?

    Try this if that doesnt work;
    1; both powerheads in the rear corners half way down pointing at the top middle of the fornt glass, or...
    3; both powerheads in the middle of the sides half way down pointing at eachother, hitting in the exact middle of the tank

    This is how I have mine, and it seems to work very well.
