Can someone please help figure out if this is Cyano or algae? I can clean this tank and with the help of my cleaner crew the tank looks great before the lights come on then bam in 3 hours this rust colored PITA is all over the substrate and rocks. If I leave it long enough it gets hair like with tiny bubbles here and there. I am on my second dose of chemclean due to my lfs telling me it's cyano but not much change. I just got a phosban reactor last week due to propshate issues when I thought this was algae. One factor that may help someone that knows what they are talking about is I was dosing Brightwells Reef Biofuel for phosphates daily when this started happening. No, I was not using Microbactor7 due to the dude at the local fish shop telling me it was a waste of money and not needed. Im about to freak. Im wasting cash left and right trying to just have this gone. Please help.

I did have 3 new chromis die, they were very small and prolly to young to be sold.

78-79 deg, 8.4 ph, 400 cal, 1350 mag, 9kh, po4 is within the first 2 color options on my test. I hate it, I can never tell. hanna checker coming soon.

So, cyano you sure? Should I dose a 3rd time?

I think the microbacter 7 would have been a better choice but that is me.

Make sure you rinse all frozen foods before you add them to the tank.
    Stop the Brightwell product.
Make sure you have enough flow.
    Alway ro/di.
    Try some GFO.

Time and limiting phosphates is going to more to get rid of the problem than any chemical you can add. Do you have a current phosphate level?

Have you added any new powerheads or other equipment to the tank?
