I think Vinny was talking about having to get a test for phosphates.

Oh got it. Should i keep the api then? I have my wife returning it today. I originally wanted the red sea master kit but i got the api just cuz i wanted to see where i am at and petco was the only place open when i got out of work. I see what he means though cuz i read other things saying phosphate test kits are inaccurate.

I would keep it. It will get the job done for you. If I'm not mistaken I think the main thing with API is it can be difficult to tell what your levels are due to the colors of the result strips. I find I have a hard time matching up the colors on regular test strips and have been switching to hanna checker where possible.

How have the hanna checkers been working for u? Saw they dont have a mag one yet. I wanted the red sea cuz i like the titration attachment they have and after watching videos it looks easy to use. Anyone have experience with them? Do u think i really need the nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia tests since my tank is already established and they are always coming up 0? I was thinking of just getting the alk, mag, cal, and ph tests.

Got ya. Thanks vinny. It does get frustrating looking at the talk and seeing that green hair blowing in the current lol. Has even made me think about selling the tank but i love it too much. I cant wait to get home from work and get my hands wet!! lol. Ok so ill get those tests then and start there. Is the 480 for the calcium too high? I got between 460-500 putting the drops in to make it turn from purple to blue so i said 480. The first shade of blue was at 460 then it got darker till 500

480 is a little high but ok. I found from others, and several weekly water test, lps don't use much calcium or mg. I have a bunch in my little 30. On the other hand, they suck up alk like its going out of style. Every time my alk gets low, every 2 days my dunken closes like half its heads.I have it stable now and its up to 20 heads. It had 5 or so when i bought it.Once you get test kits keep an eye on alk. Other than that clean water helps tremendously.
