Welcome to 3reef Mike. You've joined a group of great folks with a vast array of knowledge. What are you thinking about building, size and equipment?

Im kind of torn, I was considering buying a 75 bowfront and going with a sump setup for filtration, but im considering buying a new house this coming spring.. Kind of feel like by the time the tank is up and running it will be time to break it down and move it. I have a 29 gal octagon fresh I was thinking about converting to feel it out, and make my mistakes on that instead for now. Then maybe setting up like a 240g in the next house. Havent played in the salt realm yet so its super foreign to me.

Not to discourage you but if you're thinking about moving this spring then hold off on the aquarium for now. By the time you get it set up and cycled it'll be time to break it down. There is no reason to put you or any of the wards you might have in stress during a move. In the meantime, read, study, ask questions then read and study some more. By the time you move into your new digs and settled down you'll be ready to devote you attention to this fascinating hobby. A 240g would be much more forgiving and rewarding than the 29 or 75.
a list of equipment I suggest looking into but not all inclusive:
    Sump
    Refugium or Algae Scrubber
    Heater
Return pumps whether in line or in sump
    Lights
How will you do water top offs. I'd suggest automatic top off (ATO).
    Skimmer
    RODI water
    salt
    Chiller
Reactors (calcium, phosban, charcoal) Do you need them. Do you want them
    refractometer
    Test kits
    Power heads
I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things but this will be a good start. There are a lot of threads on here that talk to these specific items. If you have any questions ask away.

With your knowledge of fresh water already some of things mentioned in the below article will seem old hat but will help you understand the differences in calcium, magnesium, alkalinity and much more.
