Has anyone ever attempted to build a whole reef system, diy. Everything from the stand, lighting, rocks to the tank it’s self. I have been really temped to upgrade my tank but to save money I would have to some diy stuff, like the stand the overflow and possibly the tank.
I’m just getting thoughts to see if anyone has attempted this.
    Thanks

I've seen people do so, but no I... I say, if you like doing that sort of thing, go for it. It's always great to be able to take satisfaction in the results of hard work.

Not bottom up, but am working on projects that incorporate significant portions of DIY. The hard part is the time involved. Curing diy rock takes months.

So I'm trying to be content ::) with my little reef as I accumulate cheap used stuff as well as making stuff for the bigger tank..

The tank is one of the cheaper parts unless you are making a huge one, so unless you have a custom shape, I don't see risking that.

That would be pretty sweet but working 60+ hours a week puts a damper on making that a realistic dream lol

I do alot of DIY stuff.

The stand would be fairly easy I would think.

    The tank perhaps also?

If I plan to go bigger than my current 125,
I'd like to build the tank and stand also.
I'd Build the tank predrilled for the overflows, etc.

I'd probalby never build my own rocks however- I know and can, is, and has been done and quite well too. But IHO the ones I have are awesome and natural.

Please do this build and we'll cheer you on!

There's a thread on reeffrontiers where a guy diy'd more than everyone on 3reef combined. Oh and his water volume is probably also more than every one on 3reef combined! 20,000 gallons of diy reefing heaven! Everything from the tank to the ro/di unit is custom fabricated by him. Will take you the better part of a day (or three) to read through his build thread but its the build thread of all build threads for sure.

Oh and best thing is, he's still very active in the thread compared to most other builds of that size.
