I have a hammer coral and it seems really happy. I noticed yesterday that the base had come loose from were I wedged it in the rock. I reached in and grabbed the base to push it back in the hole and the coral closed up instantly (which I expected) but it released white goo onto my hand and all over the top of its self.

It is open and happy again, I am just curious if the white goo was a defense mechanism or what.

It's just slime. Natural defense of the coral.
