Hey i purchased a small frag of hammer coral from my lfs the other day, it looked really healthy in the shop.
I brought it home and acclimatised it into the tank in the usuall way (drip to adjust temp and ph...)
I placed it in a spot with good light and good water movement and at first it looked ok.
A few days on and it has all closed up, and there seems to be a very slight mucus coming from it.
My tests are all showing great results for water quality, i have two T5 power compact bulbs so lighting should be ok. is there any specifics this coral needs.

Is there anything i can do to get it back to full health?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I second the thought of a pic. Is it beginning to slime away?

Hammers do not like straong current (generally speaking that is) I would move him to a low to medium flow spot up high as they thrive on strong light.

It could be to much flow. I have mine in a low flow area and it is doing great. Try moving it that could solve the problem.

Hey guys thanks for quick reply,
yeah steve the mucus is kinda brown in colour!
And to be honest guys i should have done my homework!
I had it sitting directly infront of my powerheads! (i thought they liked strong movement! how wrong could i be!)
crimson ghost you said to move him to a spot with high light, i read a few books just now and it says they prefer low to medium light?
Do you advise me to put him in high light or low??

still get a picture up if you can, just so we can be sure

I have mine about 6 inches above base on a rock under 6 x 80 watt T5s so they dont mind a bit of light IMO

Flow is the main reason to move it though , LPS corals dont want blasting with flow as it makes them retract polyps for fear of damage

ok steve i will try and get a photo uploaded tonight.
I have moved it to a spot on the other side of the tank with a little flow but nowhere near as much as it had!
I can see some of the white skeleton round the edges does this mean the coral is dying or is it just because it has retracted in?
