But my question.... is the bryopsis getting worse because of too many lighting hours?

I've seen it run rampant in tanks with shorter photoperiods

It is a problem because its allowed in the tank, all you have to do is kill it off. Bryopsis happens due to being imported on a frag or a rock its a simple problem to cure, could have been all dead by this weekend easy.

Well it has been almost a one year battle but I wanted to give a final update here. I think this actually turned out to be a fight against turf algae. At least that is my best guess since i did more research. I think my tank looks 99% better but you be the judge after seeing the before and after photos.

Here is a list of changes that I made (in no order of importance)

    1) Changed bulbs
    2) Removed wet trickle filter (bio balls)
    3) Upgraded skimmer to = Factory Direct Sale 65 Gallon Protein Skimmer SCA 301 | eBay
this thing rocks for 100 bucks
    4) Added an Aquaripure denitrification canister (expensive but worth it I think)
    5) Added a GFO reactor from BRS.

I can't tell you how much better it feels looking at a tank with no algae in it. I'm about ready to start taking some of these softies in to the LFS and getting credit to do more Acros and such. It is what I have been wanting to do more of since upgrading my lighting system. I wanted to say thanks to everyone on this forum putting out so much good information. Happy Reefing :)

Don't think it's bryopsis. Bryopsis has very obvious fern like appearance. Mine def looks like below pic. Congrats on winning the war nonetheless.

I had to get a GFO reactor to beat the red slime.
