i use a 25 gallon sump that has a drain chamber, a chamber for my aquaripure pump,a chamber that has a 7" sandbed and return chamber. i do not have any critters in the sand bed chamber. should i have any hermits in there ? i do have some dark material in the bottom of some of the chambers. my drain chamber has filter pads that i change out weekly.

once u get it under control, you'll want to find the culprit that's fueling it which is probably phosphate. Do you run anything to control phos?

your tank looks really nice, glad you didn't throw in the towel!
