As a kid we had a fish tank that looked like a gumball machine.. I remember my mother bought it.. I am going to try and find a pic..

Thanks. There are a lot of ways to do the same thing and I don't think any one is the best. Let me know what you think when it's finished...hopefully not too much longer now...

That looks familiar :shocked2: If you find a pic of yours, it would be cool to see it.

I know I'm not the first to do this, I actually got my idea from some other picture I found while looking for odd types of aquariums people have done. I don't think I've found one like this that has a heater and lights though ;)

    hope you enjoy the thread!

Here are some of the parts I got for the lighting.

There is an enclosed 9V battery holder, some clear LEDs and a push button switch.

I just finished drilling a hole in the side of the lid for the switch. looking at it just now, I'm hoping the position won't interfere with anything else. :-/ No turning back now...

my bigger tank....it's sitting empty :bigcry:

I'm on such a budget that I can barely afford this tank. I got interested in setting up a reef tank back in October or November and I spend all my extra time reading 3reef and going to the LFSs. lol I did get a good deal on my 55 gal tank, got it and a stand & filter for $50.

I can't wait for the day when I can buy a coral! For now I'll keep doing what I can afford...reading and learning. ;)

Sometimes that (reading and learing first) is best. Hope you get started soon :) $50  for the whole thing?!? That is amazing....
