Detritus buildup or algae on the mat can cause it too.But at times,i've seen them close for up to several days at a time for no appearent reason.Just keep good flow on them and if dirty, dust them off with a turkey baster will usually make them happy again.

If you have done a water change recently and the temp, ph, or salinity had a high swing, that could cause it as well. Don't worry, they will come back out, just not when you want them to.

I would just leave it untill it comes back or completely dies. I had about 40 polyp colony diminished to 3 or 4 polyps over a long period of time and somehow it came back and are now taking over. GSP is weird. Basting does help sometimes.
