In my 200, tips of many SPS species were out of the water. I couldn't keep them in. However, my water was down 2 inches from the rim and a toilet flapper surge device dumped water on them every 5 minutes or so. There were times when they were out for longer but to be honest, I don't remember ever losing tips.

The left side is tabling as I expected.

Better image of the knob or flattening pattern of the right side of the coral exposed to air.

So I believe it will flatten or pancake out on that branch.

    Cheryl,

I'm not sure if this thread is genuine concern, or a change to show off success! :p

I have seen other reefs (several TOTM) with exposed tips, and the owners did not seem concerned with it. Unfortunately, that is my only experience with your "problem".

I do think that this problem should be classified as a good problem to have. ;)

    Congrats!

    LOL all valid points. :p

Do not know any reefer that does not show nice pieces, we are all guilty of that. Guilty as charged to some extent. ::)

Sincerely though growth patterns have always fascinated me, nerdy ways.

Thanks for the compliment I think. 8)

Definitely was a compliment. I actually saw your post a few months ago when it first broke the surface, and was really excited for you...

I too am curious to see what it does from here. Is the surface rippling, so that the tips are occasionally submerged (albeit for very brief periods)?

i don't know if anyone who has had more success with any acro then the one you have. started with a small frag in a nano system and breaking the surface is a great accomplishment, my growth on my frag hasn't been that fast. thanks for sharing this beautiful red planet acropora and keep on showing it off to the reefing world:);):cheesy:

the tips will stop growing and the growth will move down a few inches and then branch out and eventually reach the top at which time another branch will come out a few inches below, etc.

Have seen it on multiple occasions with stags and once or twice with tabling acros.

Slight ripple enough to stay moist but not submerged.

    ;D

Thank you for the support profeefer. ;D

I have a couple more that are doing well but it's not as photogenic as the RP nor are they near the surface.

RP's IME will take off once they encrust and like to be pruned.

Morning Trent (well it's early am here)

Thanks for checking in and good to hear. Sprouting below the tips so, again kind of like a plant.

    :)
