Okay so I moved like a month and a half ago and setup up the tank to take advantage of direct sunlight. It gets sunlight from sunrise til shortly afternoon. I like it the fish and coral like it. Here is the catch. The sunlight only last til noon so I still have to light the tank the rest of the day. I have been moving my T-5HO and PC lights back and forth to let the sun in. It is annoying and it is not consistent. So I came up with a plan. Buy two MH pendants and go open top. I have been brainstorming for about a month and this is what I came up with.

I want two 250W MH pendant. I am pretty sure I want DE HQI lights and I want to only run MH no Actinic backup so I have to get the right bulbs.

    Option 1:

Pros: Nice looking lights, all in one package. I like AquaMedics. Decent price.
Cons: They come with either 10K or 20K. Back to the only MH setup. 20k is to blue and 10k is not blue enough.

    Option 2:
Build my own setup. I don't know a ton about MH so this seem more confusing. Here what I came up with.
    Pendants.

    Ballasts and Bulbs.

I was looking at the 250w ballast and the CoralVue 14K bulbs.
Pros: I get the K of bulb I want. The pendants are nice.
Cons: Complicated and I have to get stuff shipped from two different places.

I don't know what to but I will be ordering in about a week and a half. Anyone have any idea the want to share?

You using a canopy or do you need a finished fixture?

www.aquariumlight.com has good prices on halide hoods

www.oceanencounter.com has some EVC retro's I think I am going to add to my system. the 14K lamp has a strong spike in the 420nm range that should fluoresce corals pretty well. I haven't seen them in person but have heard good reviews from a few people who have them.

I am mainly looking for pedants. I am also looking for peoples input on good bulbs in the 12K to 15K range which seems to be my preference.

Check www.reefgeek.com for reefoprix pendants, they had a deal on them a while back. If you go with DE lamps check out Phoenix 14K lamps. Those who have them seem impressed.
