    inwall. thank you for clearing that up. So the garlic isn't really doing the boosting.. the fish eating more food is helping it boost it's immunity.

    Yes, primarily. Allicin isn't the only active compound in garlic but it's the main one. Also Ich is a tricky character. It has a life cycle that it goes through. A LFS could sell you a reef-safe medication and the next day or two days later, no ich. Well, they probably were going to jump off the fish with or without that medication.

    not to change the subject.. but I am.. Does the temp have any affect on Ich?

    Yes, in 2 ways;

    A rapid shift in temperature up and down can weaken a fishes immunity making it harder for the fish to fight off the parasite.

    In FRESHWATER tanks, bringing the temperature up to 85~86 F is an effective deterrent against Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. However, MARINE ich is an entirely different species....Cryptocaryon irritans. There's some evidence to suggest that raising the temp this high for marine ich actually speeds up their reproductive cycle.
