When attaching a PVC drain tube to the bulkheads on my overflow box, do I have to glue it? Will it leak if I don't?

In your overflow box, no. Below it, use abs/pvc transition glue, that is what will work. I prefer threaded connections, as they are easier to remove for a tank upgrade.

If its a slip to slip bulkhead I would say glue a slip-thread adapter. Threaded is always better.

No problem bud. This way everything can be dissembled in case of problems.

If it is on the outside it should be glued but I much prefer thread x thread bulkheads so I can take it apart later if I need to or want to change things. Once pipe and fittings are glued to a bulkhead its usually impossible to remove it later as the jamb nut will not fit over fittings so you end up cutting it apart and starting over.
With threaded fittings and LaCo PVC thread lubricant sticks you can use it over and over.

I have a Bulkhead Installation Tips sticky post here:

Thanks AZ. I think I may glue them for now and order some new threaded bulkheads.
