Glass-holes.com overflow setup

Looking to purchase one of their 1500gph kits but the problem lies with the size of the plumbing.

The kit uses 1 1/2 inch PVC but my refugium has bulkhead fittings that are only 1 inch.

Will using a reducing coupling affect the gph rating of the overflow so i can get it down to 1 inch?

 

If you reduce it your gph rating drops to what a 1 inch fitting is

 

so it would reduce down to about 1200gph???

 

Pretty much since you essentially only have a 1" drain

 

would a mag 18 be too much looking at 4 or 5 feet of head

 

At full throttle it would probably be right on the edge. I ran a mag 12 with 2 1" drains and at full pump they would gurgle horribly. But at 3/4 pump, was quiet.

 

You could always put a switch to throttle it a bit.

 

so slowing a 1200gph pump down reduced gurgling? also the kit comes with vented elbows so i dont think gurgling will be an issue

 

I have a glass holes 700gph box. But running a mag 5. They are quiet but I had a mag 9 on it and it gurgled lol

 

Oh I was able to adjust the air vent and it did quiet down some but never as quiet as the mag 5 at full throttle
