    I hate to say it but API tests for calcium and alkalinity are crap. Also, "normal" range means different things to different people so it doesn't necessarily mean that your levels are where they need to be. If they are not, your hair algae will never go away no matter what you put in your tank to eat it. You need to buy yourself some accurate testing supplies. I'm going to suggest once more that you buy test kits and supplements before you buy anything else for the tank. I promise to never suggest this again because I hate repeating myself. Like I mentioned before, unless you start familiarizing yourself with the chemistry aspect of this hobby, you will have a lot of "unexplained" problems and you will continue to lose/waste money. Since I've often seen you complaining about not having any money, it would probably be in your best interest to buy what you need to avoid more expensive losses/problems.

    Seems like some people have forgotten about the huge learning curve that this hobby requires when they first start up. I can remember having quite a few problems when I set up my first tank, that's for sure.
