Getting live rock from the beach

    Or make your own, there's lots of info about DIY rock here and elsewhere online.
    But be forewarned,it takes about three months to cure.
    Other possibility, keep checking Craigs list in your area, people get out of the hobby and will often sell off rock separate from the hardware.

    +1 not only will they sell it seperate, they will often sell it dirt cheap as well.

    hate to sort of take this post but i have a question related to what was said in this thread about gulf-view.com and tbsaltwater.com...

    Anyone have experience with live rock/sand from these two and can tell me how happy you are with the results?

    Why not build a rock tank. You could then move rock around to "seed" dead rock which is a lot cheaper to acquire and ship since it can be shipped dry! Please note that not all dead rock is appropriate for the aquarium, rock which was formerly coral, has high calcium content and is porous is your best bet.
