if you have joined this site, because you have a genuine interest in the hobby
but believe that this site gives you an opportunity to post a link to your own commercial interests

    please think again
the User Agreement that you agreed to as part of joining this site
makes it very clear that links to commercial ventures are reserved for 3 reef sponsors only

if you are a genuine hobbyist, hopefully your posts will make that obvious
and you will not be confused with a spammer !

if your posts are displaying a genuine interst in the subject of reef aquariums

the following steps will be taken

1- the offending link will be removed
2 - you will recieve a PM from a Moderator explaining the problem with commercial links
3- provided the link does not appear again, no further action will be taken

if you choose to ignore the PM and repost the link anyway
    see below for consequences.

if your posts are considered padding type posts
example - "nice tank " "great fish" etc etc and in that post there is a link to a commercial venture

the following steps will be taken
1- your posts will be deleted
2 - you will be banned for 2 years

3 reef will not tolerate spammers on this site
3 reef sponsors pay in order to advertise their product

to protect the integrity of the site
and the investment of the sponsors

3 reef needs genuine 3 reef members to be on the look out for spammers
and to report them using the red triangle button

I'm a little confused on this. So it's not ok to tell some one nice job if that's all you have to say and that's what you think? that should be kept to our self to keep posts down? Also I really like this site because in my experience the ability to post links to items on other sites allows for a much better ability to compare products, are we not allowed to post links to other sites to compare products prices or give some one info on what options are available?

Great info Steve - it's like a neighborhood watch - very effective IMO.

Hope 3reef does not have as strict of a policy regarding fake birthdays! :)

damon your not a spammer- your a 3 reef member

spammers are people that do this

    great looking fish tank
    www.buysomethingfromme.com

    can you see the difference?

can you see what the spammer does and that you do not do?

damon - you post "nice fish tank" as often as you want
    I know I do!

but like you, I am not trying to sell anything while I am doing it

sorry if my post confused or upset you damon

ok cool, I just was not sure if this is something that we (normal 3reefers) should be concerned about. Thank you for clarifying.

    your welcome damon

and for your benefit and the benefit of anyone else reading this thread

if a person is looking for something
then posting a link to the product they are looking for is great IMO

    I do it
example - today someone wanted to know about scratches in acrylic tanks - I googled it - found a product and fortunately it was a 3 reef sponsors link
yesterday, someone wanted a battery air pump in case of power out
I put up 2 links, and again fortunately they where both 3 reef sponsors

the person does not have to buy from the sponsor - thats their personal choice

occasionally when I do this , the hits I get on google dont lead me to a 3 reef sponsor - I still post the link, as my priority is helping the member with an enquiry

    So silly!

Help 3reef help you people. 3reef allows nonpaying people to advertise = paying advertisers stop paying = 3reef shuts down because nobody likes to run a website for free = I don't get any more advise for my fish tank and everything starts to die = my wife kills me because I wasted a lot of money.

    I'll be on the lookout!

:whip:I saw that spammer (that I assume you are talking about) earlier but you had already asked him about his post. I assumed something of this nature would be done. I will be on the lookout to click the red button :whip:.
