fuzzy gray stuff

    there's this weird fuzzy gray looking algae on my pre filter it kinda looks like hair algae but it stays at about a 4th of an inch long, i couldn't find anything on it so im turning to you 3reef. I know for sure its not cyno or GHA but i do know that my turbos eat it. For now im heading to work so ill check this out later.

    hard to see, could be chrysophytes, cyano (some are filamentous like you said), or GHA....eh..hard to tell from the picture.

    rusty shackleford...:) i really miss that show...:(

    hey Rusty if you put a scraper on it, does it float about like sediment?
    have you ever used one of those tank clarifiers, which cause particles to clump together?

    I just used a toothbrush and when it detaches it basically looks like GHA when its being pushed around by the power heads, and no i havent used any tank clarifiers

    i hope its not cyno i hate dealing with that stuff, ill try to get a better pic but like i said im using a cell phone witch is why the quality sucks.

    also i believe king of the hill is on adult swim now if you ever want to watch it, its a awesome cartoon

    Those pics are really bad but I know exactly what you are talking about because I have it too. It grows mainly in shaded areas. I've tried to find out what it was before and have never been able to figure it out. It doesn't appear to do any harm so don't worry about it.

    okay i thought it was the first picture that was fuzzy, but i guess it is just the algae(?). probably just some hair algae then, lots of different species just end up there, so it is probably just a shorter filamentous algae than you are used to. has anything eaten it? sometimes you can rule out what it isn't by what ate it.
