fuge lighting

I just read a post by corral reefer recomending a fuge light bulb rated @ 10000K or higher for plant growing , (without red & yellow) spectrums, does anybody know where these bulbs are available, as I am struggling to get cheato or anything to grow. Just want all to know that these posts are/this site is tremoundously helpful to any aquariust fresh or salt - Thankx to any and all -;D wilrod99

 

I thought you would want a lower temperature bulb, such as a 6500K. The higher temperatures are what corals require. I know some people here use 6500K bulbs or even lower. Plants need more of a red light spectrum to grow, which is lacking in higher temperature bulbs, also why as bulbs get older, you get more algae because they shift to the red spectrum.

 

I use a 6500k compact bulb in my fudge and the cheato and calpurena grow like crazy.
I know there are allot of people here who run a 6500k bulb in there refuge. I have run a 10000k bulb and it did fine also.

6500K will work best. How fast is your flow across the fuge? Needs to be real slow like 1/10 of you display tank in gph 100g tank = 10 gph across it.

 

This is the same light that we use on our fuges and it works well.

 

This is also the same setup on my fuge and it works great for me also.

 

Same here. I went and found one at Lowes. It was about 8 bucks or so. I can't remember, but under 10. Couldn't find it at Depot out here though. But you can find them online.

 

This is a timely thread. I'm setting up my fuge this week. I will run one of these setups. I'll be running to Lowes or HD.


Does anyone worry about their light falling into their fuge???
