Okay, quick question, I keep telling my roommate to stop throwing the frozen food in the tank without thawing first. Can I get some valid reasons to back this up other than I told you so and its not good for the fish. Thanks friends.

for the same reason we dont eat a frozen steak directly out of the freezer.... aside making it harder for the fish to actually swallow the chunk i cant see the temperature shock being a good thing for their digestive system either. but i have no scientific data to back this up. and honestly thawing the food takes less than 5 mins

I'd imagine a lot of it goes to waste as I can't see many fish being able to eat a large, frozen chunk. But yeah like Swisswiss said, it isn't a long process to thaw it out. Make your roommate eat a frozen cocktail shrimp every time he does it and maybe he will stop.???

If you don't thaw out the food first then the cube will float around and it will turn into a fight for food between the fish also when a little bit thaws off there is a good chance the fish will miss it and the food will get sucked up by the filter.

Frozen foods contain phosphates in the preservatives. Should be rinsed to remove the phosphates. End result is clean and defrosted food and a happier tank

when i used frozen cubes i would thaw it for 15 or 20 minutes then rinse it thru a brine shrimp net 3 times with ro/di water. i have since switched too lfs fish frenzy. super clean food. i thaw for 10 minutes and throw it in and let the feeding frenzy begin.

Oddly enough, this why I don't thaw my cubes. It dates back to my issues keeping color in SPS from low nutrients. But this is a major reason why you should thaw your food before feeding.
