    i will also trim the excess plug away surrounding the sps as well as the stem. but if i have rubble i would rather use it

    It depends
    If I buy a coral to propagate, it will get cut up and mounted on tiles and placed in a “grow out” tank. When they are grown, they are trimmed and the trimmings are mounted on rubble/small rock. I think the rock looks more natural in a display tank.
