Here is what I mean about planning and thinking things thru, my goal was to create as many ledges and overhangs as possible without it looking cramped and fake looking and to also keep the distribution of light correct so that one ledge doesn't block the light of the one below it. Most of these ledges are of pretty good size, atleast 3" across and some of them are 5-6" across.

The areas marked in blue are the ledges

Starting to look more natural, ran out of foam and need to finish a small area on the bottom left side of the tank

    Here's the finished project.

Max, this is totally awesome. Very nice job.

I'm wondering what kind of LR die off you might experience while building this. Seems like its out of the water for a couple of days.

Is there any concern with fish pecking at the foam (bad for them to eat)?

Will the porous foam become Live Foam? :cheesy:

    Really really nice.

I had let the LR die, as I wanted it dry so the foam would adhere. I think I left it outside for a few weeks, then broke it apart to remove any misc critter, then soaked it in RO water for a few days, rinsed then let the smaller pieces dry for another week.

The foam is not toxic, I've seen the fish peck at the foam and then they leave it alone. I have 2 clams in this tank and they seem to be fine and I've had no fish deaths...all is well in foam land

From all the research that I did, nobody had anything negative about the foam and longterm use in a reef tank, several people I talked with had foam tanks that were 2-5 years old

is the bottom also foam. seems it would give you all the pros of a bare bottom but with the look of sand.

looks great now if you could do foam inserts for tanks and just sell them as kits for standard size tanks.
