I have been using the Odyssea T5 4 bulb fixture on my 29 Bio cube for almost 2 years now. I have mostly lps coral in my tank right now. I have had no problems with the fixture except 1 ballast quick working and I had to replace. I might have gotten some water on it when a pump line came of the pump. I did replace all the lights - not the best that come with it. IMO - I wouldn't have any trouble putting sps corals under this light, I get excellent growth on my lps now.

I think the MH ballasts are more prone to going out on the odyssea I have one of their fixtures that is about a year old. within 8 months had to replace both MH ballasts, havent had a problem since. T5 seem to be holding up fine and only one of the LED has stopped working. I must say the customer support with these guys sucks though. they sell you a fixture and you never hear from them again.

Hands down T5's if you want maximum balance of growth vs coloration. Par 30's will leave SPS looking horribly understated with coloration. I don't care how many people convert to LED, they simply do not produce the best color rendition in SPS. The totally CAN support them however.

VividAquariums is my LFS and they are currently running 12 ecotech radions and MH on different side of their same tank 800g, the MH blows the coloration out of the water for SPS. It is exceedingly obvious in person when comparing the same tank with the same params, with the same bio, and the same frags from the same mother colonies.

MH however runs pretty hot and is usually heavier on the electricity bill. Wouldn't want your parent to become resentful of the fish tank due to finances, but rather enjoy it all. All that said, I do love me a good MH lit tank, with some decent actinic supplements.

Aw man thy sucks:/ I've heard horrible odyssey stories. They've been sued more than once.

Thanks! My dad doesn't like the idea of MH because of heat. Those bulbs run at like 300 degrees Celsius! One of my Lfs employees showed us where he was burned to the bone by a MH... I think with the bulb combo above that t5 will be exactly what I need.:) I'm not looking to keep super hard to keep Sps like acros, just montis and birdsnest and stuff like that...:d
