sorry, i know, this is my second thread on t5 options. I couldn't find a way to merge this topic into the other thread so bear with me.

anyways, I'm trying to decide between this: Odyssea Metal Halide Pendant

    this: Odyssea T5 Aquarium Lighting

    or this: 2Ft/4Bulbs fixture

for my biocube 29. it needs to run not so hot(I'm having issues with water temp with the hood.) and i need to be able to keep SPS.

    thanks!:p

Most often MH raises your temps a few degree's but I was able to counteract that with a fan that clipped on the back of the tank and pointed between the light and the water surface. It did increase evap but it was worth it IMO.

If you are looking to combat heat stick with T5's but keep in mind you get what you pay for with those units. I've used Fishneedit fixtures for nems and they did just fine - but I'd be hesitant to use it with SPS.

alright, thanks. i think its between the MH and fishneedit now. evaporation won't be an issue since ill have a 5g reservoir for an ATO.

I have grown SPS with t5's before. Just fine really. So has John (2in10) and many other members on the site. I have heard bad things about Odyssea ballasts. I have a unit that has a burnt out ballast right now actually. lol But where there are the bad reviews there are also the good ones. If you can I would go with as good of a t5 unit as you could and run quality bulbs, like ATI, KZ, ect. If you decide to go with halide fans should be able to keep your tanks temp within range. Those fans will also make a big difference in PH and overall health in my opinion. If you look at Cheryl's cube, she has obviously had great results with halide lighting. Hope this helps buddy.

ATI bulbs are very high quality. I have a Coral Plus bulb in the mail right now!
