You are really pushing your luck Chum imo. They grow to over a foot in length. They will need clams with the shell or shrimp with the shells to help keep the beak trimmed.

Look at "Toby" puffers. Stay much smaller, some are ever good in reefs.

Good starting point would be either a blue spot puffer or a valentini puffer.

    Really?

I've never kept a tusk but a good friend had one in his reef with smaller fish (much smaller than a Toby). Every tusk we've gotten in the store has gone in with smaller fish such as blennies and clowns. Just from personal experience in the store tanks, I don't consider tusks any more aggressive than say a melanarus wrasse.

a blue spotted puffer is what i was looking at before the dog face. i had read they are fin nippers and would be worried about my moorish idol. it has a 6" streamer and i am afraid it would go pacman munching on it.

This has been my experience with them. The older they get the grumpier they become. We had one at our local lfs that would randomly kill tankmates. Most of the time it wouldn't eat them just carry around there dead carcasses.:(
It may be a male/female thing.
