Stirring up the substrate and moving the rock can cause oxygen levels to drop (I believe) and raise nitrate levels. Im guessing thats what caused your angels death.

true. angels aren't very hardy when it comes to nitrates.

I guess that could have been what happened. Nitrates were at 0 when I moved the fish over though.

Sorry for your losses, Smitty.

Do you still have aiptasia? If so, it's possible that they brushed against one and got stung while you were moving things around. Lost a coral beauty to a majano while working in my tank a few years ago.

Wow, I didn't think they could do something that serious. Yeah I still have them. I guess I need to try to kill the bigger ones then. This is a theory that works well in this situation. Thank you.

I forgot to mention that all the fish are swimming around just fine like nothing is wrong and my corals are looking good as well.

I guess it could have been the very small mini cycle or what Mr. Bill suggested as well. I guess I will actually never know for sure.

Thanks everyone for helping me try to figure this out. :)

Moving established rock can release some nasty chemicals underneath. I see you are testing 0.25 ammonia. That could cause problems. Adding prime was was a smart move. You may want to keep checking it for a few days.

Thank you very much. I guess that is why it is important to plan your tank out from the get go. I plan on testing daily for the next few days to make sure the ammonia is under control and the the nitrites don't get out of hand either.

They do have a potent sting. While extremely rare, they have been known to detach and float around with the current, killing everything they touch.

With the majano that got my CB, the tentacle spread was about the size of a dime. I saw him bump into it, then he acted just like your FA until he finally laid down one last time and stopped breathing.

Do you think this guy would be big enough to take down a fish or two?
