    I would definitely get a PVC strainer. Mesh clogs easily. One snail gets in there and you will flood your house.

    Some strategic planning allowed for that not to be possible... atleast from overflowing display. I designed the return section of the sump ti only hold enough water to not over flow display. For example i shut the ball valve and it will empty last compartment if sump and thats it rest will still hold water but pump will run dry. Id rather replace $100 or so pump than flood my house, but indo understand where youbare coming from. A buddy of mine flooded his tank when his over flow clogged.
