Not only that, but my understanding is that the entire planet's average temperate would drop a couple degrees from the huge amount of ash in the sky.

You really need to learn more about geology and plate tectonics  . Cali is moving N/S NOT E/W ;) It's also a very small part of Cali that is moving.

The US would be in far more trouble then it is now if it lost the 8th largest economy on the planet. Your state is a not even a blip on the economy radar ;)

I travel a LOT and find Californians to be just like everyone else in the US. You must not get out much and depend on TV/Movies to give you your views?

    No Cali, no 3reef!

I'm really confused as to why people are assuming that i'm saying if Cali was in the ocean that it would no longer be a part of the US...because obviously Hawaii is in the ocean and Alaska is way up and out of the way, but they're still part of the US aren't they? AND even if Cali is moving N/S, it'll still end up with some water between it and the US eventually, which is what I've been saying this whole time. The part of Cali that will move contains LA, San Diego, San Jose, and parts of San Francisco (although San Fran as a whole city will be greatly effected). Those are some huge, huge cities in Cali. Plus the entire south beach area of Cali will become an island eventually.

And yet I still can't seem to figure out how a major section of cali (major in terms of worth) moving into the ocean (going south still puts it in the ocean) means it will no longer be a part of the United States...

And with the Tennessee thing. All the major cities in TN are completely different from each other, so I can understand Zach why you hate the Nashville area, because I hate it too :) Maybe I just love TN because I love the city I live in (Chattanooga). My girlfriend from Knoxville even says she likes Chattanooga the best and that it feels like a "beach town".

And Atlanta is definitely NOT the sticks and middle of nowhere of Georgia  I'm talking about the North Eastern part of the state, where between Chattanooga and the beach is redneck country to no end. Believe me, I had coworkers from there. Great people. But dear God...you can't spend an extended amount of time in their company without wanting to perform Seppuku.

Hopefully I cleared up what I've been trying to say. Here's a map to help :)

See? Even if that chunk moves south, it's going into the ocean. If it was northern California, then we'd just end up with a new mountain range or something. But it's pulling away rather than moving towards the mainland.

I should have added in 2008 Cali accounted for $1,846,757,000 (1st) of the US GDP and Tenn accounted for $243,869,000 (19th). Not too shabby for Tenn but no where close to Cali. Could the US afford to loose nearly 2 trillion dollars in GDP?

We move like 1/10 of an inch a year. The myth your perpetrating is just that, a myth. It will not fall off into the ocean. It barely moves.

We're talking MILLIONS of years to see any real difference and personally I hope I am not alive then to see it :p

Our GDP's about to skyrocket with the VW plant coming to Chattanooga, too :) Chattanooga must be the awesome city of Tennessee. I hate knoxville. And memphis. Nashville's ok...just weird people. People even come to UT Chattanooga because they either hate knoxville or hate UT Knoxville or whatever else they hate. I guess I get the best part of TN :)
