I think it is. I use about 1 1/2 teaspoons to raise my dKH (goes up about 1.5 dKH). That's for my 38.

I use it, because the water I buy at the LFS the dKH is 9. It takes 1 tsp to get mine up 2 dKH.

Everything is happier when its at 12...

Well, it's official. All my Xenia (both starts) are dead. I raised my alk to 11 and the sick looking one started to bump up a little in it's health. Then both of them crashed. And boy-howdy, did they crash!!! They melted!!!! It was a trip. Someone in an earlier post mentioned that that is how they go. Noooooo kidding. Wow. So, I took what little death there was left on both rocks and am going to put in it's place Kenya Trees.

Now. Alk and Kenya trees. Someone in a previous post mentioned that alk should be on the low side for KT? Did I misread that? Any takers on this one? I am holding off on my weekly addition of puppy uppers to increase the Alk until I hear from ya'll.

It depends on the coral. With Xenia, it melts. Literally. It closes up, turnes kind of a weird whitish color, and melts. Pretty neat actually, if you look at it empirically. Other corals exhibit different signs and symptoms. What that is I don't know.....I have been pretty fortunate that the only coral I have lost is Xenia.

Oh no.......Kenya trees.....I saw them die once also, they just fell over and looked very bad. You couldn't mistake it. Turned from brown to grey.

Sorry for your loss John I just can't wait to be able to put corals in my tank. I think it is ready but I just keep holding out for some reason. I have found a local guy who is moving with some great deals on his corals for example.
-Orange Monti Caps on plugs (half dollar size) - $10
-Blue Caulastrea (Trumpet coral) 3-4 heads - $10
-Pink Zoot Suits Paly, 3-4 polyps - $25
-Softball sized rock with approximately 18 Purple Mushrooms - $40
    – Green Star Polyp frag - $5
    - 3 head hammer coral - $15
    - 2 head frogspawn - $15
    – Captive Grown Pink Birdsnest frag from Live Aquaria - $20

    What do you think.
