This is my first batch of live rock. I used 5 cups oyster shells, one cup water, one cup portland, and one half cup corse water softener tablets. I was starting to drill them but they beak apart because I mixed in the salt tablets.

    Sweet rock!

I've been thinking about chucking LR and going DIY ever since I've been fighting a very small aptasia infestation on those rocks that I just had to get from the LFS with a plague of 'em. Guess it's not worth it now for my current one, but I'm definately making DIY rock for my next tank.

I did use a sand mold. I am going to make another batch with some crushed coral in it I think.

Look nice Just like real LR and it will look even better once its in a tank. I made some DIY rock about 2 months ago and it's already starting to get Coralline on it!

depends on how you cure it.. When I made enough for a friends 90 gallon several yrs ago we set it in a creek that runs through-my place and gave it 4 weeks But you can use vinegar and water changes and get it sured in a few days if you want. Muriatic acid also will speed the process up.

no way vinegar and water changes, cool good to know rather than having it sit there for months, I dont think Ill use the acid, little scary, What are the details for vinegar, dose, time span, cleaning. Thank you very much!
