Has anyone tried this or something like it? Will this drain water from the DT down to a sump? Will it have a possibility of a flooding? Will I have to drill a hole in the DT? I'm so lost.

Sorry it won't give a direct link. It's under prefilter boxes, which is under products.

    Thank you!

Overflow box.. small box inside and outside the tank with a U shaped pie to syphon between em .. The U shape maintains water level between the inside and outside boxes.

The outside box then has plumbing down to your sump.

On your return line make sure to have a syphon break just below water line and it won't (shouldn't) flood the sump.

But as a disclaimer accidents can happen.

I am sorry but I can’t tell what you are looking at – I followed the link, but still uncertain.

If properly set up the possibility of flood should be eliminated – we can certainly help you here. Please tell us what you are trying to attempt and which product you are looking at. The DT’s should drain to the sump/refugium via gravity overflow – in the event of a power failure the sump should have the capacity to hold the tanks overflow amount – thus no flood.

Edit - oh I think I see now, you are looking at the overflow box. Again, your sump needs to be large enough to have the capacity of all the DT's water that can flow out until during power outtage. Normally its 1-2 inches of the DT's water. This depends on your overflow box design and siphon break

It shouldn't flood the tank, as mentioned, if you leave enough room in the sump to handle backflow water from the DT when the power goes out.

IME the Lifereef products are great. I had a protein skimmer many years ago when I had a 75g. Not cheap, but great products.
