    Hello,

i just lost one of my damsel to what looked to be lymphocyctis on his fins and mouth. now my other damsel is showing signs of ICH. little with spots on his body. setting up my 10 gal QT tonight.

    so here are my questions...

How long do i need to keep fish out of the DT to get rid of ICH.

can ICH host on inverts like snails and crabs?

and also can it host in rock, substrate, or filter media???

55gal FOWLR third week into cycle.

You will need to let your tank sit for 6-8 weeks. The parasites cannot host the rocks/inverts. Fish only! So you can leave snails etc. in the tank. Be patient and wait the entire 6-8 weeks!!

if youre still cycling , not much to do. damsels are mostly sacrificial. although most make it through. ich as far as i know, doesnt host in inverts. another one of these rules of thumb , tank is best left fallow for 6 weeks after any outbreak of ich. thats a little extra on the length of its life cycle. usually your cuc is added after your cycle is finished. roughly do you know what stage youre at in regards to the spikes?

I would raise the temperature to 80-81 to increase the life cycle of the ICH. IMO;D

thankyou all for the quick replies.

so i should pull out my damsel and wait 6-8 weeeks before attempting to add fish again. i have a QT set up now for new additions. glad this happened now before i had a stocked tank.

that would prob be the best to do. dont let the ich have a host. do the old raw shrimp if you want to bump the cycle along instead.

You shouldnt have any new additions untill you are completely cycled. your QT shouldnt be used to hold new fish, you should just wait for your cycle to be done.

I think he meant for future additions he now has a QT tank so he won't have to deal with ich in his main system again...right cj?? ;)
