I don't think it directly "cares about you", but rather recognizes you, as in association with being fed & getting food to eat.

Yeah, a lot of folks will agree with you. So will my buddy. He even tried proving it to me.

When we both walked up, it went to him (pair of clowns actually). (He's a solid 150lbs bigger than me too). When I walked up alone, it went to me.

Maybe some fish are better at it but it's still the same thing I said, I'm not really clear with what you are disagreeing with...

    I said
It doesn't care about you and it doesn't recognize you. It just recognizes that something associated with food is happening. That's it.

    And you said
and will associate you more closely with food then others

    Like I said
It just recognizes that something associated with food is happening. That's it

I think they may recognize a color of shirt, or some more broad criteria. I know my fish freak out when they see the red cup (feeding), but not when I put in another color.

Mine react most obviously when I open the hood for my saltwater tank, but my freshwater fish react when I get near the tank.

I was saying that some fish have the visual acuity to recognize some one they see alot. So as to favor that person over others for food or recognize as less of a threat. So basically they can respond differently to some people.
