Ca 430 constant, dKH 4.1 constant, Mg 1440 constant. pH 8.0-8.2. the balanced ratio to Ca 430 is 9.8 dKH, if dKH goes up to 4.5 the tanks cloudy. if my dKH goes higher than 5 it precipitates out, why? PO4, Si, NH3, NO2&3 all 0. temp 77.

different manufactures test kits have been used, all the same result.

    any takers?

    The cloudy is precipitation.

    Two thoughts:
How fast your you adding the Alk supplement in attempt to raise it? It needs to be added very slowly in a high flow area.

Are you certain you are measuring in the right units? I can't help but wonder if your 4.1dKH might not actually be 4.1meq/l. In which case, 1meq/l=2.8dKH.

the cloudiness isnt precip, snowing is. im not raising dKH and a minimal amount is dosed with a programmable pump along with Ca and Mg to keep up with the consumption rate. dKH and meq/L are different quantities, everyone should know that. but thanks for the "i cant help".

    anyone else?

I would question the test kit nor method. An alk that low would cause some massive ph swings in most cases. Do you have your tank ph on a meter? How large of a tank? How much do you dose into it with the pump?

Agreed, something is amiss. With Ca at 430 and Alk that low, your pH should be nowhere near normal range...

first off thank you for a suggestive reply:

agreed, which is why i posted this

he didnt, multiple test kits were used.

no pH swings,pH 8.0-8.2 pinpoint probe calibrated, 45g, dosing amounts daily: Ca 163 ppm, dKH 2.9, Mg 4 ppm.

    you know what i know.
