I recently built a DIY venturi skimmer. I used mostly PVC, with a clear plastic jar for the neck. The body is 4" PVC. It is powered by a 400 gph pump.
Here are some pics from during the build. i didn't get any of the finished skimmer and cup assembly b/c the camera battery was dead that day, but the cup was pretty simple and I'm sure you can put the parts together.
Any suggestions to improve the skimmer will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot. I enjoyed building it myself. I'm really happy that it seems to be working so far. I know skimmers are supposed to have a break-in period before they start working properly so I expect it to get better with time.

I'll get a sump picture for you soon.

It looks like you used 6" for the body. Can we get a detailed materials list?

nah, it was supposed to be 6" but i couldn't find 6" end caps anywhere, all i was getting were the waste gate adapters.

    let's see, material list:

    4" PVC (body)
    2 4" end caps
    4 1/2" male adapters
    4 1/2" female adapters
    2" PVC (short piece)
    2 2" collars
    1/2" PVC (short pieces)
clear sturdy plastic jar (neck) (i used a hellmanns mayo bottle for this)
nice big clear round bowl with cover (cup)
    pump and flexible tubing

the 2" PVC and collars were used as a riser column from the neck to the cup. the 1/2" is for the skimmer output. I used the height of the body as ~12" but i just made it to fit the space i had.
the mayo bottle i used works perfectly with the 2" pipe, without any cutting. the opening fits a 2" pipe perfectly, then i put a collar on the pipe to prevent movement down.
Feel free to ask anymore questions.

    Thanks, I'm proud of it.
