This is an opened-ended question. It's a matter of tank dimensions and what you keep in the tank.

You beat me to it, evolved!

What size is your tank, and what do you have in it?
I was told (by Mike from RapidLED) that the 24 LED kit is a lot of light for my 29 gal (30" wide), but as I can dim/adjust the height if it is too much, I went for it.

So, if you are looking at 48 LEDs, Id say yours is 48" wide tank, correct? With 23" heatsink x 2, 24 LEDs each would be perfect. But again, you might wanna get second, third opinions. Totally depends on the depth, stock, etc.

:p I knew I got lucky. They have been updating the front page like daily with stock info. And I took advantage of it :)
Are you doing 50/50 with Cool White and Royal Blue?

Yeah, Mike is really helpful. Im happy doing business with him.

Good luck to you too, and make sure you post some pics when you're done.

24 on a 29 Gal?! Yikes. I am running 12 XPG/XRE's with 2 24" T5HO's and it is a lot of light! Dimmers will suit that tank well.

awesome thanks! I always thought the retro fit kit was to be built into an existing hood. But the kit you got looks good. heat sink dimensinons look good too. Do you plan to buy the optics for them?

^ He used to sell the kit you're referring to, but it seems to have disappeared from his site as of late.

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Im gonna blast my tank with max XP powers! Just kidding. No, if I ever upgrade to something big like 75 or 90gal, all I gotta do it get another one, thats my secret plan :)

Just got back from Lowes with some "S" hooks for hanging. The optics came with the kit: 55/60 degrees I believe.
