Hey, I've thought about a DIY canopy that I could construct and had a couple questions if anyone has any thoughts.
First, I have power compact lighting, that being said (or maybe it's true regardless of the lighting), should I keep glass panes below the lighting to keep them separated from evaporating or splashing water, or does that distort the light?
Second, would I need to coat the inside with something water proof to keep any evaporation from ruining the wood or other components on the inside?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I would not worry so much about the wood be ruined. If you want, there are many water proofing paints and spray paints around. It is true that salt and water etc.. can damage or burn out lights. To answer the question of needing a splash gaurd depends on how high above the water line the light will be. I would say that anything less than 8 inches from the water she be splash protected.

    Hope this helps,
