    Wow this is quite a convo to jump into. Most lights rest about 5" above the water at least that is the way I have it on mine.

    I was typin' away all yesterday... here a& helpin' a newbie to the forum. :)


    That depends upon which light you go with. ;) 5 inches would be fine. If you go with a 6 bulb, I'd go 6-8". You could go 10", but there's really no need to, aside from getting access into the tank, yourself.

    5" would be good for a PC fixture or a T5 fixture that is what they rest at normally with the standard mounting hardware so I would stick with that but for MH you could go higher since they can be pretty powerful.
