    Try using a wood conditioner before staining, this should solve most of the blotching that happens to pine when it is stained.
    You should be able to get it at HD or any paint store.

    I see regular hinges and 90 degree metal supports and this could be a problem later when they start to rust from the salt.

    Ok guys I have never stained my tank do you think its possible that I can do it now without draining the water and taking my reef apart?
