I read all the other threads and I think this is diatom algae, but I couldn't find any pics to support my theory so here it is.. I think it's the tank finishing cycling, but this is starting to show up on my sandbed. Thanks for the help!

Looks like your diatom bloom is starting. Just let it go (clean the glass if you like), and it will disappear all on its own. The more you mess with it, the longer the bloom will take to burn itself out.

Yeah I have it too, I have cleaned the glass once, but figured it will disappear on its own in time. I don't have my light yet, so I left the blinds up on the window beside the tank the rocks on that side are covered with it, the rest of the tank only has a bit of it. Once my new light shows up I will put the blind back down.

Like greg said, only clean the glass. It will probably get really nasty so don't be alarmed. Also, I never clean the back because I like coralline algae to grow.

Thank you! My buddy hooked me up with 70lbs of it for $1 a pound!!! It's been cycled for over three months before I bought it. He is partners in a tank building business and this was all left over from a tank build he did.

Dennis I'm not gonna touch my back glass either.. The brown is going hog wild in there, it's more than doubled in there over night.

Thanks for all the info guys n gals!

Wow that is ugly......but a necessary evil in this hobby. We all go through diatoms, just be patient!
