Re-did my 55gal this week, with new sand, and improved filtration (also the addition of a phosphate reactor to combat the green hair I was struggling with the last time around).

Previously I had a Crushed Coral bottom. I'm liking the look of the sand alot better already, but now I need to begin thinking about inhabitants. Params are pretty good right now, but I'm still expecting to see some cycling occur in the next few days.

    I came across this product:
    Detritivore Products Page

And thought it might be a good addition to get things rolling. Has anyone used a similar type of product before? How did it work out?

Also, going this route, how much does the tank need to be "fed" to keep these guys going until a fish population begins to build a few weeks later?

Every January, my reef club travels to Inland Aquatics for a club meeting. Many people have purchased their detrivore kits and have been happy with them.

I used to live in Terre Haute and all of my stuff came from Inland Aquatics. Detrivore kits have all of the little critters in it. I always added one every 6 months or so. The best thing to cycle the tank with is damsels or cromis. They are hardy fish and don't cost much. Had two of my four original fish for 8 years live through two complete recycles of my tank.

I went with Inwall this last January and if you ever get a chance to visit this place it's worth the trip.
