I am not an expert on tangs by any stretch, but it is my impression that tanks are too small to breed tangs in general. Some fishes mating routines require a lot of space

the larvae cycle is too complex with tangs i believe. but in the link i provided above there is a story of a maroon and a perc breeding.

side note: darth i think you spelled necessitatem wrong.

if tank size was not of any issue, would it be possible for the tangs to breed, since they are of the same species?

Thanks. I am dyslexic, and struggle with spelling lol.

The two tangs are not the same species, but rather are the same genus.

I would not use clowns as an example. They seem to hybridize quite readily in the wild. In fact some species of clown, A. akindynos comes to mind, are suspected to be common hybrids. Some biologists question whether there are separate species of clowns at all, or one species and several breeds (as in dogs, where a chihuahua and a greyhound are the same species but different breeds).

But yes being the same genus tends to make it more likely. Never heard of it though

i think fish if there in the same family they can cross breed, but it may be the same genus(classification inside family) can breed together.
i really think the issues is feeding the offspring not so much tank size
heres text taken from animal world

there is a book by joyce wilkerson called clownfishes it has a pretty good section on breeding the fish on it. what it comes down too. is once they lay the eggs about a week later you have to stand watch at night and siphon the babies into a seperate tank to raise. or if they breed on a moveable ornament just put that in the other tank.
for the first part of there life span you must feed them microorganisms called rotifiers you can buy them online.
