    Out of all the giant clams, croceas need the most light. As mentioned above, they are also rock-boring clams and need to be on rock. As such, unless you are using very powerful MH lighting, I would elevate the clam at least to the middle (if not higher) in your tank on the live rock.

    Yeah, it should be. With your MH lights you could put the clam lower if you wanted, but I still think it would be happier on a rock at least mid-level in your tank.

    If you want a clam to put on the sand, look into a derasa or squamosa clam. Croceas and maximas like to be on rock.

    I don't mind it being on a rock, I have a good spot for it about mid/lower level of the tank.

    Please don't take this the wrong way, but why didn't you do this research before buying it?

    My lights are on for about 7 hours a day and both my clams are doing great.

    There is a great quote early on that says "In my humble opinion, it is less important how your tank is set up with equipment than it is being educated prior to purchase". Prior to purchase being the key factor there.
