    Im not saying that my methode is better, im just trying to understand here, in what way would my methode flood??? if the return pump goes out then the overflow drains what water it can and then stops, no flooding unless you didnt plan your sump to take in that extra water but with or with out the little tube it will flood. Just trying to understand captivereefs. help me out here. cause if you are right ill tell my budy to switch his methode.

    The pump just ensures that the water is removed mechanically and does not rely on gravity. If for some reason the air built up to fast the method your freind uses could fail. Or worse yet if something clogged with salt creep the air ould be allowed to build up causing siphon break. Always plan for the worst situation in this hobby.
