coraline die off in new tank?

I just setup my new nano-cube 12 and it seems like some of the coraline may be dieing off, turning white in some spots...should turn the lights on, or leave them off as I read is the correct thing to do, I have to nite time LED's on to watch it, can I leave those on?

 

leave your lights on. whats your Ca, dkH, Mg, pH and salinity?

 

I would leave your lights on. I don't think the led's will make a difference...

 

ok, I'll put the lights on, dont have all those tests but heres the ones I do have, nitrate is at 30ppm(hope thats the right units) nitrite is 0, alkalinity is 300ppm, PH is at 8.4, and the hydrometer reads just under 1.023 or 31ppt....hope that stuff is ok...if i need to test something else ill get the kit this week sometime... figured that was all i needed during the cycling

 

salinity is a little low, imop 35ppt or 1.026. when you get the rest of the tests done, let us know.

 

ok, alot of stuff I read on here said the light should not be on during cycling, but it didnt make sense to me, cause wouldnt the coraline need light to grow...anyway, I'll try to pick up some of the other test kits this week...oh I did use some kent marine nano reef buffer since the water was new, looks like it has salts of calcium, magnesium, potassium, strontium, rubidium, iron, zinc, manganese, nickle, coblat, cesium, chromium; followed the driections and its made specificly for nano reefs, since the water was new I thought adding the proper trace elements would be helpful, its also supposed to help keep the alkalinity correct, the PH was low at first so there is also some kent marine PH buffer which worked perfectly cause its right at 8.4 now

 

The Coraline on most of my rocks pretty much died off when I first started all of my tanks, but with in a few weeks it started to grow back, with a vengeance! I am however finding it grows best in areas where there is less lighting.

 

yeah it seems to be quite the debate as to light or no light for it, I geuss I'll leave the lights on, there is coraline in the shaded areas too, so I suppose it wont all die off,

 

ok, heres 4 pictures of my rocks, they look more vivid in the pics then in real life believe it or not, my little kodak v570 rocks ...anyway you can see on the large flat top surface where it turned a bit white and on the front of that rock, although it has not gotten worse since the initial white which happened pretty rapidly(like 12 hours maybe, rock has only been in since mid day yesterday) I ordered a calcium test kit and also ordered some purple up, just in case the coraline doesnt decide to grow, or the calcium is not right that(should be with kent nano buffer I have in there)but some people on here said it worked good in some older posts so I figure for 8 bucks why not have it around...anyway let me know what you think with the pics now...

p.s. also ordered the maxi-jet 900 230GPH pump to replace the stock 106GPH, at the moment my old rio 400 is sitting on at the bottom under the stock output, upside down to help the circulation, I dont want it in there permantly but also read that coraline likes high flow, so thats eliminated any dead spots...

 

I use kent super buffer and phososorb in my tank...
