I personally do not wear gloves. I like life on the edge. I have fragged palys without wearing gloves. I have heard I should, but I am also a tad curious about how sick would I really get.

I use gloves whenever I can, it's potentially overly cautious but I've been sick before and I'm pretty sure I don't ever care to be sick again if I have the choice.

It's also not always as simple as just getting sick but some people pretty regularly (although not often but I've read several cases in the last year or two) end up with really nasty/potentially deadly conditions like blood poisoning/sepsis and the like which they believe was from working in their marine tanks.

So aside from the coral themselves are some of the potentially even more nasty things that can come in on rocks/frags etc, lots of crazy bacteria and such, google vibrio if you want one example.

After I reread this I just wanted to say I'm not trying to scare anyone or anything, chances are pretty low that you will have a problem with anything but I think it's always good to be informed about all of the potential outcomes. Nothing worse than being surprised by some sort of nasty illness/serious condition.

    i wear gloves.

i am not concerned about getting myself sick at all. what i am concerned about is hurting the coral. there are several corals that if your skin touches it, it dies or recedes.

gloves protect me from that accidental touching... worried about the coral, not me.

a ricordia is not one of the corals that freaks out if you touch it though.
