There is a line of thinking and data to go along with it that too much light retards growth. Basically only a few hours a day is the Sun at it's highest point and the most light. The majority of the day is low light levels. Not to mention cloud cover.

Some folks run their halides 4 hours a day and have great growth. I'm not that extreme, but I have been converted to more is not always better crowd.

I have a couple of slow growers too, but those are my fastest. Thanks for reminding me.... I just turned my halides back to 6 hours for my tank to get used to the new actinic.

Ooooooooooh, I love growth pictures. Here are some of mine.

Candycane Coral maybe 4 polyps taken at 10-07
    [IMG]

Now with over 60 polyps and the size of a softball!!

3 Green Hairy mushrooms about 2 inches wide at most taken on 10-07
    [IMG]

Now the almost the size of dinner and salad plates
    [IMG]

I also bought 1 red spotted mushroom about 3 years ago that started to overrun my 24g. There was over 150 mushrooms in my tank about 3 months ago, until I took them all out. They are still around, but in small numbers..
This is fun!! Lets see some more!!!!!!

By polyps do you mean zoas? Some grow faster than others. Some of my polyps seem to never grow, while others I have a hard time keeping in place.
