    Only if you trying scan from the infected computer, not the case if scanning that hard drive from another computer.

    It sounds like your drive may be about to crash to me. How did u figured its a virus, because of the pop ups? Are they website pop ups or system messages?
    HDD's don't crash as often as they used to. I remember a few years back u could not even touch the computer while the drive was working on something or u got data corruption.

    Plugging it as slave somewhere else and trying to recover your pics and important data, as ComputerJohn suggested is also my standard procedure for this type of emergencies. If its a MBR issue, it usually can be fixed very easily.

    Good point maybe a HDD error msg, but tuff to say without knowing what the error msg says. I have had a lot of Seagate hard drives crashing lately, not even a year old.

    I know if a few trojan virus that do a system scan, in which its infecting the files.
